Freelancing is a wonderful way to remain professionally engaged AND develop the flexibility you crave to manage your personal life. If you are ready to make 2016 the year you create your own business, but unsure what you need to get started, then join us for the inaugural 2016 New Freelancers Workshop, an intimate one-day event to help you launch your business.

- Interactive exercises to help you get clear on what kind of services or goods you want to offer, and a plan to get going
- Ideas and strategies on how to start pitching clients right away
- The opportunity to speak one-on-one with lawyers, accountants, graphic and web designers, coaches, insurance specialists and more, to save you time and money – and get all your questions answered about the business side of freelancing

Listen to a panel of experienced women freelancers describe the rewards and challenges of running their businesses. A frank discussion about what works, what doesn’t, and what you really need to get started and be successful.
11 a.m.: Vision Exercise
Sara Jane Lowry coaches executives to think bigger about their purpose and personal mission, and how they can achieve meaningful outcomes in their personal and professional lives. She will walk us through an interactive exercise to help attendees align their strengths and skills with what their business needs.
12 p.m.: Lunch
A delicious lunch is included with your registration! Provided by Chef Robert Sayre of Conflict Kitchen in Oakland.
12:45 p.m.: Everything Legal and Financial
Two of the biggest fears we face when starting a business are: “what are the legal issues I need to know about?” And “what are the tax issues I need to be aware of?” A local lawyer and accountant will share the stage and present best-of tips for making sure your business is set up properly for legal and tax accounting purposes.
1:30 p.m.: Tech, Social Media and Websites for the Freelancer
What are the must-haves in a website? How can you get a nice-looking and functional website without spending a ton of money or time? WordPress and design experts will walk you through the steps to help make the process easier and less costly.
2:30 p.m.: Insurance Issues
3:00 p.m.: Wrap-up and Networking
